Taupo-Mt Ruapehu Trip Day 2 (21th June 2007)
Yesterday night wasn’t that great for me. I remembered I woke up a few number of times, probably coz of the strong scary winds sounds like gonna blow off our chalet cabin. My alarm clock went off at 6am sharp, I got up from my bed. Taking shower in a freaking cold weather is a torturing task, but still I urged myself to do it to wake my sleepy head up. The weather was cloudy, moody, showering. After drinking the
hot chocolate prepared by poh yee, we depart lo!
Before we depart...
When we reached the reception desk, only found out that the restaurant is not open which means that we do not have breakfast to eat! We were truly angry at that time coz we were told las nite that the restaurant is supposed to be opened at 7.30am this morning. We were puzzled at one moment, thinking of walking down to the restaurant las nite v went to. Yet, the receptionist told us that they can prepared for us a bowl of cornflake for each of us. Sooner we found out that they gonna charged us 5dollars for a bowl of cornflake + milk…argh…its very expensive!!! But v got no choice but pay…sigh…Later we got report that the ski area is on hold, there is not enough snow for us to ski, the chairlift ride was closed as well. We were disappointed, still we hop into the earlier shutter up to Happy Valley, Whakapapa Ski Area. It was raining heavily. Despite the heavy raindrops, we still managed to see a thick blanket of snow covered the ground and mountains. After taking a few pics, we went into the Lorenz’s Bar & Café for shelter. Feeling hungry, I ordered a white chocolate + raspberry muffin. Yummy yummy muffin!
my yummy yummy muffin~
After taking a break, Wyne & I decided to went out to the ski area to take more pics. Despite the light raindrops & freezing cold weather, both of us walked up to the lower portion of the mount. It was amazing to see mass snow lying thick upon the mountains. The white snow stood out clearly against the black hard rocks on the mountain. It was such a waste not able to ski. In this sense, the quote of nature is so unpredictable come across my mind. After lots of shots, we found out that the picture we taken became blur. Probably the weather is too cold for the camera & water vapour begin to form inside the lense of the camera. Not long after, we was soaked- wet- thus we get back to the café. Py& Elun then decided to take a few photos as well after browsing our nice pics…hehehe
Around 11 am, after chill enough, we decided to go back to Skotel as we have nothing much we can do up there. Bck to chalet, we snap some photos again, hav some light snack. Elun & Poh Yee take a short nap while wyne writing her diary whereas I was drying up my hair with a hairdryer in the bathroom.
All in a sudden, we heard the siren followed by an announcement. That time, I wasn’t conscious with what happen. Wyne & ELun opened the door quickly to grasp what is the announcement about. It was an emergency! The lines went stg like this: “It was a volcanic emergency. You are supposed to leave your room now.” All of us get so panic at that moment where we quickly grab our luggage, prepared to leave our room. At the midst of doing so, there came another announcement: “ The emergency is over. You are now safe to return to your room.” Thinking back, it was such a thrilling scene to be. We are not supposed to take our luggage with us if any emergency happens ( what we thought after the incident)…ha..but v were glad nothing happen. At least there is no volcano eruption. Around 12 noon, we checked out our room & took the shuttle down to Taupo! Py & I fall aslp along the journey. Around 2pm, we reached Taupo i-site. After we went into to book the Barbary cruise & the Huka Jet, we walked around the shops and begin to search for our lunch. We went into Flax Café. I ordered a Ham + Cheese + Tomato Croissant and a Flat White. This time we thought of having our lunch under the sun. Feeling abit awkward with sunglasses on when having my lunch…hehe =p ha…it was a nice experience to enjoy our delicious meal and the sun shine simultaneously! Hahaha

After our lunch, we thought of finding a present for Jason as he is kind enough to let us stay overnight at his hse & play around his farm. As we walked around the shoplot at Heu Heu St., we realize there is a suspicious character following us from shop to shop. We were really scared at that moment, have no idea what we gonna ask for help, we continued walking faster, faster & faster….Sooner, we were relieved to find out that the guy didn’t follow our track anymore. As we have much time left, we decided to take a stroll along Lake Taupo- the largest fresh water lake in Australasia. We stood in awe- inspired by the majestic lake size & awesomely beautiful view of the lake. Standing in front of such picturesque view, we will not miss the chance of snapping photos.hehe=p
After that, we went to the nearest garden next to the lake too just merely for fun before heading back to i-site to take our luggage before it was closed at 5pm.
This is some interesting sights we capture around Taupo-

At the bottom are the Sponge Bob van, the cupid sculpture at one of the shops & the lovely daffodils along the road side
Jason gonna picked us at 6pm, we waited and waited….
At 6, Jason arrived. Yea! We were so happy to meet up with Jason’s dad, Roger and his bro, Ben. Roger is a friendly guy, he fetched us home and welcomed us warmly. After 30 mins ride, we finally reached Waihora Road, Ohakune- Jason’s farm & a big house. As Jason whole family going to move to Auckland, the house seems pretty empty, yet it was still in tidy & comfortable condition. Our dinner was prepared by 2 gentlemen, namely Roger & Jason. They served us Carrot+ Brocolli+ Cheese Sauce + Beetroot + Onions with grilled beef and fries. Simple dish but it was nice & lovely. We sat near the fireplace to keep us warm while we have our dinner and chit-chat. Our dessert was Icing Carrot Cake plus a few muffins which we bought at Brumby’s bakery just now as a token appreciation to Jason family. Before going to bed, Jason even served us with hot drinks. How sweet is it!
