Kia Ora! ‘Kia Ora’ means welcome in Maori Language. WE finally arrived Wellington Airport at 11.25pm (NZ time) – 8th of Feb. Students from Victoria Uni of Wellington (VUW) welcomed us at the arrival hall...They gave us a welcome pack and sent us to Cumberland. It begins my first night at a new place called NZ! 1st nite was scary…They placed each of us in a single room on the 10th floor yet we don’t dare to stay in a single room, so 3 of us decided to stay in a single room. After taking bath in a freezing cold environment, me, wyne, poh yee & pui ting went to the nearest store to get mineral waters. It was 2am in midnight and the whole street was pin drop silence…It was abit eerie & it was cold! After getting some stuff, we quickly went back. What was so scary is the lift at Cumberland, 3 of the lifts are not functioning properly.Some1 even trapped inside the lift but luckily is not me. My case was I went into the lift & I could not press any button in the lift, then the lift closed its door itself and I was sent to the 10th floor… the door open in a sudden, when I wanna press the ‘open’ door button to hold, I found out that the lift do not have any button to open the door (due to my ignorance). I was shocked and when I decided to walk out, the lift close its door again and I was sent back to the ground floor…It was crazy isn’t it? Some of my frenz at the ground floor felt weird why I was still in the lift?! I almost went crazy when the lift close the door again and I was sent bck to the 10th floor…end up when the lift open its door, Wan ling & Wyne quickly pressed on the door to hold it and I was escaped from this ‘haunted’ lift..*phew*.. At nite, due to carelessness, I locked my keys inside my room, ended up Wyne & I dun dare to go down to the office by lift nor the staircase, so we stayed a night in wan ling’s room…

The next day we were still miserable yet I gotten news that we are going to moved into another accommodation - Nomads Capital! I felt relieved that I finally escaped this scary accommodation .. Yet, another series of stories gonna begin… Nomads is much better compared to Cumberland in terms of facilities and rooms…Wyne & I were put into a dorm of 4ppl…Evyday we got the chance to meet different people sharing our room. Nomads is bckpackers, so people just come & go…There are 2days where they put a guy in our dorm, the 1st guy was ok but the 2nd guy was annoying…he was from States and he is kinda big size compared to me..haha..I am small in size,cant deny that…muahaha…So whenevr he moved when he is slping at the upper level of the double decker bed, u could feel the whole bed shaked & it was very noisy…Maggie from Germany(she is also in a medium statue) who slept at the lower deck get so annoyed and she was afraid that the whole bed collapsed and he will fall on her…luckily it dint happen..What irritated me most is that there is one day he threw his wet towel on my bed after his bath.By the time I came back, I found out that his dirty towel lied horizontally on my bed…*yuks* His shirts were threw all over the place…so messy & irritating..

Things were getting better after a few days at Nomads…We started to explore around the city…We went to quite a number of places --> New World supermarkets for foods & groceries, Briscoes & Warehouse for relatively cheap necessities & house appliances, Yan's Supermarket for Asian & oriental foods…We also explored around Lambton Quay,Railway station,Oriental Bay Beach, the Wellington Cable Car, Courteney place,Cuba Street, went to our Kelburn Campus which is situated uphill, Pipitea Campus & Te Aro Campus…but still v haven got the chance to go Botanic garden..

During orientation, we went to a number of tours…1st we attended Powhiri. It is a traditional Moari welcome ceremony. Maori were the first people of New Zealand, today they make up over 14% of the population & over 10% of Victoria’s student population, so their language & culture has major impact on NZ life. Through this ceremony, we could observe that Maori has a unique tradition for welcoming guests. It is held on a Te Herenga Waka Marae- its like a hall where it has its unique carving on it. Powhiri begins with a wero. A warrior from the tangata whenua(hosts) will challenge the manuhiri (guests). Manuhiri needs to show that they come in peace and not for war purposes. After giving speeches of welcome(which is in Maori language), evy audience sung waiata (songs). Then the guests are supposed to present a gift to the hosts and greet the hosts with o hongi- the ceremony of touching nose. After the powhiri, kai (food) is shared.

2nd highlight was the Nightlife tour! It’s a way to check out Wellington’s lively night scene. We visited Irish Pub & try some of the beers- tui & export gold…V get a little bit drunk at the end of the day…ha…we still managed to find our way back to Nomads.. The next day, we went for Wellington Bus tour. Through this tour, we have the chance to see around the sites of Wellington such as the Beehive- Parliaments, St. Paul church etc. We also stop at Mt Victoria – a perfect view of Wellington City but its freezing cold up there!

Currently, I have moved into a new place called Te Kotahinga.Te Kotahinga is the Maori name given to the self catering house. It also means bringing people together. I am now sharing a room with Wyne…so happy that we are still roommates afterall..hehe.. There are altogether 8 rooms including my room which fits 2 residence…it is pretty nice here where its like some kind of house where we share the kitchen, dining hall, bathrooms & laundry areas. Besides, I am able to enjoy a nice view of the city from my room! Check out more photos from my multiply site : www.gibberyc.multiply.com. All of our hsemates are from different countries including Africa, Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand & China. It only takes 5minutes to reach my campus - Kelburn yet it’s quite tiring as Kelburn campus is situated at hilly side.

starting of my journey in life

It has been 3 wks since I arrived NZ...

before i touch more details about my life in NZ... i still rmb those gathering which was held before i depart..singing & having fun in redbox,gathering with angie,siu yean & ekjon at Klcc,hanging out with my usual batch of 'zi mui' as well as my intec buddies!all the happy moments will alwiz etched in my mind!

Next,I wish to say thank you to those who went to the airport on the 7th of Feb! Firstly, to my parents & relatives,ur supports are the best! To the best buddies of my frenz(Cm,Xw,Pl,Hc& Regina)...u gals rocks!i will nvr 4gt the moment u all shout to me "Yi Chin, Jia You!"...it was really touched & it will alwiz be remembered... TO Zhao Xing & Alvin, sincere thanks to both of u too! My apologise coz i din reali chat alots with u guys... hehe For those who made a call/sms to wish me all the best,I really appreciate that...
Special thanks for all the cards & gifts too!Especially to Xw, I jz dunno wat more to say beside tons n tons of thank you!U reali hav done alotz,the notebook with my name on it(I believe u take a long time to make it with those beads!),the hp hanger again with my name on it,the songs & the editted photos(U& me) and the testimonial...omg...I am truly...touched...till i shed my tears... To Chai mei,if not for you be the driver (hehe...),they wont come isnt it?not like fui chin,aihz...got boy boy dy then 4gt bout me(hhehe...) thanks alotz reali!I feel honoured with evythg of that!Not to 4gt, the blessing charm from Alvin & Siao Wei ==> (thank you so much!)

Well, to begin with,flight at MAS was kinda boring coz all of us were placed in different seats...yet the food served was still satisfactory...after 8 hours of flight, we finally arrived at sydney airport..it was 9 stg in the morning according to Aus time..Luckily we hav temporary visa pass,so we are allowed to leave sydney airport . At 1st we went to Australia's Malaysian Hall to hav lunch.After that, we went for a short trip- touring around Sydney city. We went to Bondi Beach(a fabuluos beach!) with our formal clothes(weird isnt it?) haha then v headed Aus most famous tourist attraction- the Opera House & the Bridge(I 4gt the name..hehe...)... i would say it was so worth it afterall i got the chance to visit some places at Aus even though i m jz transitting at Sydney...hehe Around 4.30pm v were sent bck to airport again..It took for another 3 hours more to reach Wellington airport by NZ airlines (NZ 744)..Finally I arrived safely at Wellington, New Zealand around 11.35pm...

I m bck!It had been long since i dint blog anything...even my frenz started 2 growl at me...aha=)
Well,I jz sat my ielts exam not long ago,preparing 4 6mths..*phew* finally...now i m in holidays...(Yeah!!)
Recall bck,life at intec wasn't easy when i 1st went in..With strict rules n regulations+ sum conflict here and there..well,still manage get it through..Luckily,i hav a group of craziest frenz...U guys are fantastic la,bringing lots of laughter and joy although there were some obstacles in between...aiks i still rmb how v 1st started form in groups,then v hang out couples of days at klang valley,v involved in drama n hatric and went to the fabulous merdeka countdown...All those sweet memories i ll cherish 4ever!!About academic stuff,v studied hard 4 mid-term exam,went 2 main campus 4 ethics exam,v worked together 4 assignments n presentations,v thinked twice 2 choose our subj combination,v put in all our efforts 4 our ielts...*phew* its ovr now,but then more to cum in nex yr..lolz
aiks my frenz here sure ll b jealous now..hehe of coz i wouldnt forgotten my gang here..V keep in touch,v still encourage n gv supports 2 each other,v still update each other wif wat's happening between us..(our ms CM here will surely update us wif the latest info hehe=p) Keep it up,my frenz!!Study smart!Stay cool!Be happy and healthy!

11th of JuNe-
2day i woke up at 8am but quite blur coz i was sick...*sigh*After breakfast,v had insurance briefing at the main hall at 9.30am..Later,v had special meeting with theDean of FOM and Dean of FBL>>its for alpha management's student only<<.After lunch,v,the "fortunate" ones who stay in hostel hav 2 attend our hostel orientation.It starts off with a fire drill and safety awareness's briefing.Then,v had Ice Breaking.V were divided into groups & each and everyone of us hav 2 introduce ourselves & know each other.Our team leader then hav 2 draw lots 2 get our team's representative animal.My group is cicak~alamak~V hav 2 formed our own cheers and flag according 2 the animal~.At 9pm,v had a series of briefings===>>>STAD,Residential Unit,Security n lotz....V dismiss around 11pm nite.

12th of JuNe-
I started 2 sorethroat but still can tahan the pain.Gathering was held at 7am.V had some warm up exercise at mosque sqaure.Then,v go for hiking at Bukit Beruang(it juz situated at the back of MMU).Wow~~The roads dat leads us is extremely steep..V used all our energy juz 2 reach the 1st check point.Can u imagine dat???!!With determination and moral supports dat v gav each other,all of us managed 2 make it 2 the peak.There,v can c the malacca strait and the whole scenery of malacca..Splendid!Awesome!Although it was a wonderful experiece,but it was really tiring.V were exhausted to walk back 2 hav our breakfast.After lunch,v had LDK at the main hall.Each of the group was asked 2 perform their cheers & their own flag.Then,v had treasure hunt.It was quite fun!!!Enjoyable~After dat,v were given a task 2 complete a puzzle as quick as possible...Hehe...dis really needs patience n thinking skills.But my group managed 2 do it in the shortest time among all~V were the winners!!!At 5pm,I was really sick...So,i didnt manage 2 attend the last activity--sports.It actually not a kind of sports,its juz comprises throwing eggs,water balloons etc...ahahaha^ ^Then,last but not least,the closing ceremony was held.

Orientation Day>>5
10th of June-
Extremely sleepy,very tired but still hav 2 wake up early,& gathered again at 6.45 am.The breakfast provided 2 us 2day is not delicious at all...*sob*I didnt hav my breakfast.V had our faculty briefing after our breakfast..Its all bout our course n wat v r going 2 study lolz~After a short break,v had our last group activity.V were divided into groups n 2 representatives of each group hav 2 say out a phrase dat r given which hav the similiar sound in each of the words(exp: a big black bug beats big black bear.......).Which group which can said it accurately n fast will win!This session ends quite early,so v hav the chance 2 watch naruto's series...hehe=D.After lunch,v had our last briefing b4 our closing ceremony---CITS's .Its all bout information technology service dat provided in MMU.Finally,our closing ceremony was held around 4pm.It started with the speech of our president,Prof.Datuk Dr. Ghauth Jasmon.This followed by the singing of our national anthem.Lastly,'Permata Dunia' put dis orientation week a wonderful ending~ ^ ^

8th of June-
Hav 2 wake up early again.V hav our morning gathering as usual.After breakfast,v had group activity at a tutorial room.V play sum kind of 'mathematics game'/bottle game dat needs all of us 2 continue saying out a number.then when a selected num/relevant 2 the selected number is on ur turn,u hav 2 say it in'bottle' !!!Later,v went 2 the lecture hall 2 listen 2 the top performer presentation/interview.The speakers r ex-MMU students wif excellent results n co-c..They guide us on sum of the study skills n their secret of success..can be consider as boring lo..V guyz chatting instead of paying attention.hehehe=p.After the boring interview,v went for campus tour..such a wonderful trip but tiring.heheAfter lunch,v went 2 exam hall for a exam& record units's briefing.They guide us on our exam marks,the rules n regulations etc...After dat,v listened 2 our president,Prof Datuk Dr.Ghauth Jasmon welcoming address.He talks more than 2 hours...ooo..no...so sien..me fall asleep oo=>

9th of June-
As usual,get up early,went through all the morning ablutions,v gathered n v went 2 exam hall.Haih~going 2 listen to 6 briefingss again...*sob**sob*first,v had CCTD's briefing,its all bout entreprenuership..2nd-CMEAD's briefing--its bout multimedia education,teaching us how 2 check our results & lecture notes etc...through website.3rd-legal issue:talks bout do's n donts' in MMU(boring indeed@_@) 4th-Library's briefing:whole system of library,hav 2 attend courses summore b4 getting ur library card..Then the most 'attractive' briefing==>SRC,the student representative council...This board is cool!!they formed by really talented and those who hav leadership skills.They r sumthing like wakil rakyat,dat representative us,the undergraduates in MMU 2 voice out any compalints or comments..V oso watch their video clips and v hav a short session of quiz after dat.After lunch,>>dis is the lousiest lunch provided 2 us,they provide us food dat r not fresh enough...Consequetly,i got diarrhoea:'( <<,v had STAd's briefing,SIEN again...its so suffering 2 keep my eyes open!!Later,v the green team's members went 2 a lecture hall 2 practice our green team's cheers,our'bu-bu' cheers etc...At 7pm sharp,v started our Orientation Nite~it was such a wonderful nite-fantastic-amazing-awesome-cool-fun-v need tickets 2 go in-V sat according 2 our colour team,everyone is in high spirit!!!Oldsy were dress in orange t-shirts while v dress according 2 our groups..Performances were great,cheers were fabuluos...Every team was giving all-round supports 2 all their members..the MC were pitiful,their voices cant beat us lol.It was such a wonderful nite which shows the team work n co-operation among freshies n OC...It will alwayz be the memorable moment~

First Day in Multimedia Uni
5th of June-
I reached MMU around 7.30am.With my eyes partly open,I can see throng & throng of students and parents every corner.The atmosphere was so enliven and live-up.At 8.30 sharp,registration starts.Students rush in like animals snatching for foods...For me,I dun hav an ID,so hav 2 go to the special counter to get my ID.Then oldsy(dis is wat v call senior) put me in GREEN group.After taking my orientation kit and settle the payment,I went 2 hostel registration.At 1pm,mum and dad helped me 2 clean and tidy up my room.There,I met my next door roomate, Angie......After tea,mum and dad left.I was alone..so sad T_T Later,I knew another gurl,same room wif Angie,Li Cia fr Perlis...Since it was the 1st nite,I went 2 azyoke's rent hse 2 put on a nite 2 accompany her o >.<

6th of June-
At 8.30am,v walked out 2 hav our breakfast.Its price was enormously cheap,but then the food is so tasteless...*sigh*i juz consume a lil bit..V went 2 market later on 2 buy sum stuff for azyoke(she is going 2 cook dinner for us 2nite!!)At 3pm,all of us (the new freshies) gathered at the main field.V hav 2 lie up according 2 our group and numbers.V hav a short lauching ceremony of our orientation week by lefting all our balloons.This followed by a short briefing at the hall.V oso learn the song'Permata Dunia',its MMU's glorious song..hehe ;>

7th of June-
*sigh*hav 2 wake up early around 5++am....V were so tired n sleepy.V,the freshies were forced to wear the batik dat MMu gave...Its blue in colour and it's full of MMU's logo..*yuks* so ugly...Everyone was in blue and it looks alike like NS's paticipants wif the blue t-shirt.After all of us were placed at certain places,the official opening ceremony was held.It was via video conferencing fr cyberjaya.Around 10++,our Guest of Honour>>Prof.Dr.Tun Siti Hasmah,the cancellor of MMU arrived.After speeches given by Chairman and Tun Sri,v had an oath recitation followed by Negaraku and Permata Dunia.Me,one of the green group hav 2 stay in the main hall 2 hav our 1st briefing bout security...Aih~so boring~~the speaker was mumbling 2 himself,me so sien...dis continue by admisson's briefing,its a lil bit better brief us all bout ptptn and scholarship stuff like dat.After lunch,v hav the finance's briefing>> talking nonsense.......After dat,v had our 1st group activity.It kick off wif introduction of all our group's member.All of us hav 2 memorise everyone's name.Then,v were divided into groups and v hav 2 came out wif our group cheers~
