MGmt simulation

Dear readers,

2day I got mad for my mgmt simulation. Last 2 wks,I was bz-ing working on a big project of planning the production of paper bags. At 1st i was glad dat I m the production manager for my tutorial group as I thought i will be designing bags for the production. During the planning phase, indeed i m asked to design bags, but not to come out with creative ideas of making beautiful bags, yet to come out with the fastest way of doing brown paper bags in 30 mins time.*sweat* It still goes well with me though. AT first, I figured out how a paper bag is folded, then i try on my own to fold the paper bags. I came out with two designs for the base, then after discussion among our tut group, v hav chosen the base which looks more simpler n easier to them( well, i agreed with them though).

Time flies. Upon entering the 2nd wk of the planning phase, there began a wave of tension among all of us. Me myself, jiejah & wan ling (as the training manager) started to become worry n wonder how could v produce paper bags in the fastest way to hit the profit of 500 dollar to get the total 5 marks. Sadly, the general manager has also assigned me many tasks, not to say I m boosting myself, seems like I m the general manager who works evythg on it, from the design of the paper bags, making the template till the supervising the workers during the operating phase. Frankly speaking, I was indeed annoyed coz' basically my job covers evythg. Thinking of the making of the bags make me spend so much time on experimenting, measuring & trying out all kinds of methods. In between, I do hold meeting with the training team & quality control team to discuss some problems in between. Indeed planning a production is not easy, there are many problems that appear like figuring how many workers & what materials that we need, the precise measurements that we need, the most cost saving way of doing the paper bags...etc...undeniable lots of questioning that require tons of time n effort to sort it out...

Making the jig took me about 2 nights to fully complete it. Trying on papers n making the precise measurements ady took me lots of time, at the mean time cut the board of less than 0.1cm is so damn hard! I admit i m not good at using the cutter, it took me so much effort to actually cut it. At last, the line was still not straight and there are many 'crushed waste' coming out...*helpless n sad* at dat moment, I just hope that others wont blame me on my poor cutting~ But its indeed a hard task, my back aches so much after finish cutting the template! Yday I had a meeting with my tut group again to test whether how long do v make a paper bag, sadly to say it was a totally chaos, some cut it wrongly, some dint attached glue properly, some just could not get the idea how to fold it....gosh..at last, it took more than 15 mins to produce just one bag...I later try on doing it, i just took 11 mins to complete it...Perhaps bcoz the instructions are not clear enough, so I work with wan ling to improve on that n take note of evy single error that occured.
Thinking~~~
working out~~~
doing~~~~
evy moment I was thinking of how to improve of making paper bags(almost got crazy by that), how to make it better, how to make it easy for evy1 to do it, how to avoid any possibilities of error that might pop out n stuff...

feel like wanna get this done as soon as possible~~
so tired liao~~~

this morning, I woke up, still worrying on this stuff. Having the last meeting with the whole tut, not much to discuss, v hav decided on how's the production process goin on, all of us know at least know wat is their role...5pm was few hours away, but i m walking up n down, butterflies in my stomach, in my mind ~ just management simulation thats gonna operate soon! Wan ling was nervous too, she text me when i m thinking of doing so...haha...^^ Finally 4.30pm is around the clock, I got prepared n walked to Union Hall at student union building. So paiseh~ I am the last person arrived. By the time v walked into the hall, there are already heaps of people into it,perhaps all of them are anxious too...hehe ^^ V walked to our assigned tables, laid down our stuffs, waiting for our 'workers' to arrive. The operating phase of this simulation started with the purchases of materials, so our purchasing manager bought all the stationery n brown papers that v needed in the production, the marketing team went to the customer to ask for the requirements of our logos while me, the production team n training prepared for the production session.

about 4.55pm, v started our training session, but later v found out that v hav started early(nagged by Jordon)... then straight 5pm, we started the production phase, Amirah supervise the measurement n the cutting team, while me,jiejah n wan ling supervise those workers who are in charge of folding the bags while rikki n ella help in supervising those making the logos n handles. At the start, it went well as there are no any big error occurs, I m glad that a few of them were quite good at folding the paper bags...By the 1st period, thank god that v managed to produce 2 big high quality paper bags.=) after the 5mins break, v continued the 2nd period, workers are more efficient now but still our customer was quite strict & mean, they didnt gv us a high price, they were complaining that our base are not strong enough, so v pushing those workers to put more glue n fold it more precisely...At the las minute, v managed to produce the 7th paper bag i guess...But the base for the last paper bag is not strong enough, when the water bottle is placed into it, whole bag collapsed...sigh~ yet v managed to make a profit of 610 dollar. I am hapi that v got the 5 marks! =)

Yet there is another side of the story...when it comes to our turn to be the workers for the other group. I got extremely annoyed coz they took our jig to use as their template. Its so unfair!!!!!!!!!!! I heard that they make a deal with my GM saying that if they helped us got the 5 marks, we shud gv them the jig! MY GM just agree without informing me! Such a brilliant idea they hav! took our jig, n goes according about the same way as we produce, It was like copying our stuff....they know we will be more efficient coz v hav already know how to do with our own design bags. They just slightly changed the way of folding the base...AIks! I got so fed up! They are using my jig n they are producing better quality bags than us, they got their one bag sold for 150 dollar~ ish~ wat de... Ella *evil grin* keep telling me " u shud know wat to do", i nodded! hehehe (getting bad here..) all of us were not realy hapi with our managers who indirectly 'steal' our rights, so we, the workers were trying to slow down the speed ( so evil of us!!! wahaha)so that less paper bags will be produced...kakakaka.... but still we produce good paper bags for them n helped them earn heaps of profit which is almost double of our profit=(

Although we got 5 marks each, but when I think of it...I get so fed up! Unfair BUT Helpless~

Dont gv up

As usual, I opened my mailbox....
Got an insightful email from Ing Wei...So i wish to share here...

One day I decided to quit...
I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality... I wanted to quit
my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
"God", I asked, "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"
His answer surprised me...
"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.
I gave them light.
I gave them water.
The fern quickly grew from the earth.
Its brilliant green covered the floor.
Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.
And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. He said.
"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.

But I would not quit.
In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit." He said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6
months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.
I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."
He asked me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been
struggling, you have actually been growing roots".
"I would not quit on the bamboo.
I will never quit on you."
"Don't compare yourself to others."
He said.

"The bamboo had adifferent Purpose than the fern.
Yet they both make the forest beautiful."
"Your time will come", God said to me.
"You will rise high"
"How high should I rise?"
I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"As high as it can?" I questioned.
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and brought back this story.
I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you.
Never, Never, Never Give up.

In fact, dun gv up of trying ya!!!!;)

Kia Ora Spring!Flowers starts to blossom along the way...
Sadly, my 2 wks break gonna end soon...

I still rmb how torturing a wk b4 my break where I slept less than 3 hrs evyday jz to finish all my mgmt assignments and study las minute for my mid term test...
On the 12th of Aug, the M'sia Fest was indeed a success! I was proud to be a part of it to make the effort a dream come true... Thru this fest, I feel that the spirit of Malaysia Boleh could be seen as almost evy M'sian student toil and sweat for it, bravo indeed! Luckily, my chinese dance met the satisfactory expectation, no one 4get the steps..=) Good job gals, evy1 of u did ur best! When looking back of the video, our dance steps was sychronise and harmony...;)Overall, good weather + great performance + delicious food + combined effort of all = MALAYSIA FESTIVAL 2007 a SUCCESS!!!

On the 17th, a killing day for me... where my 4 mgmt journals + mind maps + econs assign & online test + quan computer exercise DUE! After my acctg mid term test, I was totally relieved. Finally evythg is over...wahahaha=) my break finally arrived...

Now thinking back what I hav done in my hols, hmm....mainly the main thing what I did during my break is I didnt touch my book or even notes!! hehe =p It was so relaxing where I spend my time shopping around, savouring bfast at bakery, watching drama series - My lucky star my favourite! & reading fashion magazine...on the 1st wk of my break, I totally ignore my academic stuff, purely focusing on my own wonderland...hehe Bsides shopping, Elun, Sebestian, Poh Yee, WYne & I tried out HK BBQ + Hell's pizza + Wendy's ice-cream + Robert Harris's Choco Heaven, we also went to the one and only shopping mall at Wellington which is at Lower Hutt. sigh~ the mall is so small, i think jz a quarter of mid valley...haha jz 2 levels, small... i guess its enough in NZ where they dun hav so many shops and retailers...

---> ONLY shopping mall at Wellington

After few days of playing around, I was sick after WYne has recovered...haha It was so sad at that time as both of us were not able to go down the city...Few days later, both of us were almost recovered and v decided to go our shopping spree again.;) Lots of big sales was seen but surprisingly, I didnt shop as much as Wyne did...haha I guess she couldnt buy anymore coz her baggage has been overloaded too much! What I hav bought are Jay Jays' jeans for jz 10 bucks, few tops, 3 pairs of shoes ( 1 boots + 2 pairs of 娃娃鞋...hapi hapi!

On the 2nd wk, WYne & I hav some cooking fun! I managed to do kek batik, taste like choco but is not made by choco, hehe=) weird huh? V also did some unbaked & baked cookies ( honey + peanut butter & nutella + butter) and v also try to bake Apple & Sultana Muffin. It is so much fun & hapi when v see our fruition at the end! All of it taste really good though there still hav room for improvements. Overall, we were satsfied!
